Stations of the Cross 2021 - by Augustine

Welcome to Stations of the Cross 2021

What we do and why we do it:

During the time of Holy Week on the 1st of April 2021, Saint Patrick's school at Panmure, Auckland has kept their tradition, even during Covid-19, by observing and playing a part in the Stations of the Cross. As a Catholic school we share the journey of Jesus Christ carrying the cross and dying by putting on a performance for the school, so every year the year 7 and 8's participate by choosing and playing a part in the Stations of the Cross. There are 14 stations that lead to Jesus' death. This is a special time for our school and the whole Catholic Community around the world to give appreciation and respect to Jesus.

Behind the scenes:
Before the seniors performed in front of the school, they rehearsed the production 5 times. The first rehearsal was difficult for them because they have never been part of a reverent presentation before, but they never gave up. Without using costumes or items they practise and understand what they were doing and why they were doing it. The 2nd practise was usually the same, without any items and costumes. But the 3rd and 4th we practise in our school hall and that time with our items, the cross, the crown of thorns, and Veronica’s towel, and on the 5th rehearsal before we were going to perform in front of the school we used our costumes as well, and then we were ready.

The Stations of the Cross:
While the school walked into the hall, the characters took their places, and the guards including Jesus were waiting for everyone to be ready. Then a few minutes later it was time to shine. The production was amazing. Falling on the floor, women crying, men helping, clothes taken off, the nailing to the cross, and finally death. Children taking crosses of their own infront of Jesus and left the hall reverently.
