Alma the living doll - by Augustine

Alma - The living doll
By Augustine Ripata

Alma sees dolls everywhere. Thinking about what will happen next. Thinking of her family, friends, about her life. Thinking about how much her brother loves touching things, especially toys. Is this how her life ends? Or is there still hope?

An hour of sitting in that exact spot, a red hair girl walked past the shop outside. Crimson looks like a 9 or 10 year old child. Not noticing the doll that looks like her. As she turns she looks at the doll shocked and surprised. Walking to the entrance of the shop she opens the door, but it wouldn’t open.

Crimson grabbed a heavy stick and smashed the door window. As she walked into the store cautiously, she held the stick thinking that something scary might jump out from the darkside of the shop. Still walking but slowly seeing dolls everywhere. She looked everywhere for the doll she saw earlier, but nothing. Then the doll appeared behind her on a shelf. Walking quickly now, but doesn’t notice the thousands of dolls just staring at her. Crimson looked back to see if anyone was about to catch her, no one was in sight. She looked back and the doll disappeared.

The doll was next to Alma. Knowing what to do, Alma got ready to terrify the girl. When Crimson was about to touch the doll that she was looking for, Alma blinked as fast as he could, moving his eyes side to side. Crimson froze in shock, looking pale, and thinking what's happening. After 10 seconds she ran away screaming. Opening the door wide and running outside. The door closed slowly, a boy on the bike rode very fast to the exit. When he was almost out, the door slammed and he got trapped.

Finally, an hour later a little boy walks across the store outside, calling out “Alma! Alma!”. Alma heard the shout, and looked to see who it was from out the window, but it wasn’t clear enough because of the thick snow. The boy looked inside every shop in that alley. When he looked in the doll shop he wasn't sure about what was inside, but he was also curios about what was inside. He opened the door and took a look around the store, and saw a toy that looked just like him. The boy lifted one arm to try and reach the doll. He looked so determined to take it, and then that's when Alma realises who the boy was. It was her brother.

Mop Head Representative meeting - by Augustine

This is a piece of writing in the form of a diary.  I have read the book 'Mop head' by Selina Tusitala Marsh and written this on response to her being bullied at school.

Mophead: How Your Difference Makes a Difference by Selina Tusitala Marsh- Auckland University Press

Dear diary
You will never guess what happened.  Yesterday I went to a Restorative Justice meeting. I forgot what it means, but it was perfect for the situation.
Anyway, it started like this.

I got a call from my sister. She told me what happened. She said that her daughter was into trouble. She was being mocked and teased by one of her class mates. They called her mean words that described her big curly hair. They called her "MOP HEAD!"
I said "I'm on my way to the school."  I drove, and what I saw impressed me.

When I got out of the viechle,  I saw that the school was clean and tidy. Running into the office I asked them where my niece was, Selina, we were meeting. They showed me where to find her. Surprised and happy faces greeted me. I saw my niece, looking happy at my arrival, but I know inside she was nervous.  Then I saw the enemy, Bob and his parents. He looked chill and calm.

The principal came in and started by talking about what had happened. The principal  decided to suspend Bob for 2 days for teasing a student in a very mean way. My niece was happy that she is now safe. I was proud of her for being brave and telling someone.

Aroha's way - by Augustine

 Aroha's Way

The children played happily in the woods. Feeling free. They ran everywhere. Laughing and smiling. The cool breeze blowing. But when Aroha heard screams the free spirit left and horrific thoughts arrived in her head.

She ran while breathing heavily, eyes flooding with tears. Looking and feeling worried. Aroha then stopped in front of her friend's jackets and shirts. She was worried and cried. She heard laughs, creepy laughs. She wanted to see what happened to her friends. But she became paralysed. Feeling upset while thinking of what to do next. But nothing came to her.

Aroha, still crying while thinking. Seeing nothing that will help her. Trying to find her way home without getting caught. Seeing movement and hearing cars up ahead. She runs towards them and finds what she's looking for. She looks happy and joyful to see her home again. But also disappointment and sad that her friends in her heart have now faded away.

The End

The Longest Walk

 The Longest Walk

This story is about the Rapsey family, hiking through the longest path, Te Araroa, and reaching the end of the trail.

This family came from the home of the Otago University, Dunedin, and went all the way to Cape Reinga, and walked through the long trail, and travelled across and reached the end of the South Island, Bluff.

The Rapsey family passed through boulders, mountains, big trees and alot of nature. It took the family over 5 months to reach Bluff. They slept under huts that they built, stayed under tents in forests, and at camping grounds.

I think that this family is very brave, determined and adventurous. They walked from the top of NZ to the bottom and with nothing but determination and fun, at the end they achieved their goal.

Telegrams - by Augustine

What I found out about telegrams:

A telegram is a message that is sent by telegraph, wire, and delivered to people in Morse code.

A person calls the post office and says what they want to say. Then the office sends the message to the person that the caller wanted to speak to. The office writes it in Morse code then sends. And the person on the other end received the message and tries to figure out what it means.

I think that telegrams were used to pass messages around the world.

I've been Attacked - by Augustine

I’ve been ATTACKED

7:00 am, I woke up on the floor. I had a bad dream about people running, people dying and seeing blood all over the place. I got changed and went downstairs. I brushed my teeth, ate my breakfast and got ready to start a wonderful Saturday.

At 10:00 am, I watched a movie on Netflix. It was a funny movie, with people running around like crazy. I saw people jumping, people laughing out loud, and people crying at the same time. I had a great time watching For 3 hours, until my mum came. The t.v went pitch black that’s when I saw my mum’s reflection, a very tired face, on the t.v. My sister ran up next to her smiling. Not a cute smile but an evil smile. Then I knew I had to do something else.

At 12:00 pm, My sister came outside with me. I asked her if she wanted to play rugby. She accepted. She kicked the ball, I caught the ball, I ran with the ball, and I pushed her over. I felt sorry for her. I asked her to stop crying, but she didn’t. Then my mum came out and I knew I was going to get into trouble, but she just looked at me, and went back inside.

At 1:00 pm, My sister and I were playing tag. It wasn’t that fun because there weren’t many people to play with and my sister is so slow. After a few minutes, I heard barking. Out of nowhere a dog leaped over a small fence. The dog was aiming for me and my sister. I had no choice but to push her out of the way.

After the attack.

At 3:00 pm, I woke up with blood all over me. I saw people running up to me. I saw my family hugging. I saw the ambulance and the police. Then after seeing all the blood on the grass and on myself, I passed out.

Around 5:00 pm, I opened my eyes and I saw cards, balloons and food in front of me. I feel stitches on my arm and legs. I feel like passing out again. But I don’t. My parents give me a hug and say that I was brave protecting my sister. I was proud of myself. I felt good and I felt like a proper big brother.

The Cloak of the Unknown - by Augustine

The Cloak of the Unknown

Yesterday, for Drama we began a study on Rapunzel. Instead of reading the story we had to design an artical to 10 second drama around different artefacts associated with the Fairy Tale. The artefacts consisted of: a black cape, bird/nest necklace, Padlock and key and lastly a crown.
Here is the artical my group constructed around the artefact our group chose.

School Journal - by Augustine

One of my School Journal activities, I have drawn a picture on Google Drawing about my dream house. My dream house is even bigger than most houses and it has over 10 rooms. It even has my name, and a golden door handle. It also has wheel so I don't have to leave my house alone, and finally it has a pool on the roof.

Letter to a friend - by Augustine

Dear Corona Family

I hope you are enjoying your holiday in Woolpit town. I just want to tell you that after you left, these two green kids came to town. The people say that the children came from a cave. They went to school and a rumour was spread that the green kids spread a rash around the other children. People think they started it but we still do not know the direct answer to what or who started this contagious disease. Days later, the green boy was sick, and he refused to learn to speak English, eat food and take his medicine. He died. Then the sister wanted to build a statue of her brother in the centre of town. But some people don't want that to happen. That is all I know.

I hope you are enjoying your holiday.

School starts differently - by Augustine

School starts differently today!
Augustine Ripata

Today, my siblings and I got ready for one of the weirdest day of our lives. We changed in appropriate clothes,  brushed our teeth, and had breakfast. Then, as soon as it struck 9:00am, school for us started at home. I know what you are saying: 'Why is there school during lock down?' Well, the school I go to (I know most schools are doing this) have classes online. My siblings and I started school at home by doing work on paper and electronic device. My class has a daily time table and here it is:

I can do all the activities shown on the timetable or some, but I wanted to complete them all.

Today was weird, it was weird for me because I never had school at home. I think this is the first time in school's history that this happened. It was also pretty weird to talk and see my friends, my teacher, and my principal at their homes through google hangouts.

I completed all the activities for today, and I am very happy that I have done it.

I am looking forward to work some more tomorrow, and to hangout again with my teacher and my friends.

What is stress? - by Augustine

What is stress?

Stress is a type of feeling you have, when you are tired, working too much or having responsibilities. Stress sometimes make you don’t feel like doing work, you just feel like relaxing.

Hormones are chemicals in our body that tells us how to react in a situation, like stress. When stress is inside you hormones tells you to react by moaning or being lazy if you don’t want to do work.

Stress is also caused by being scared or elated - over excited! Stress is also caused by breathing heavily, your heart rate is rising, blood sugar level increases, blood pressure increases and more.

Hormones don’t just tell us how to act in a stress situation, They tell us what to do when we are sick as well. Hormones also tells the immune system what to do in the body such as battling with illness like flu.
