Trouble on Christmas Eve

Trouble on Christmas Eve During the Christmas season there lived a family in Auckland, New Zealand. They lived in a huge house in the city. On Christmas eve the parents both had to go to work. So they left their twin daughters to spend the night home alone. The sisters were excited to stay home and to finally feel that they have a huge responsibility to look after the house and each other like adults. 1 hour has passed and the sisters looked tired while watching TV. The living room was full with potato chips and popcorn, and the kitchen was twice the amount of mess there was than the living room.

Suddenly two grown ups decided to spread some Christmas cheer and walked towards their house. They saw that a window was opened so they climbed through. They were walking inside the parents room, looking at lots of  jewellery. They took their bags off and started taking the items. When they were finished they walked to the living room and to their surprise two girls saw them looking shocked. The adults had no choice but to tie them up and tape their mouths shut. “Merry Christmas” one of the robbers called out and walked out the front door.

One of the girls were so scared that she fainted while the other cried. “I hope Santa gives them coal on Christmas” one of the twin’s said. What will they tell the parents when they come back from work? Would they ever have the responsibility to look after the house again?

The Christmas argument

Looking up at the night sky on Christmas Eve you might see Santa shouting at his reindeer. Lets listen carefully for what he is saying. “Giddiup , you guys are even slower that horses, move faster!”. “But Santa your too heavy to carry plus the slay and the sack of presents” Comet replied. “Than how come every year you 9 can carry me and now you guys cannot” “Because Santa there comes a time when living animals gets old like you” Says Dasher “Yes I am old and fat but do you see me lying around being lazy,  my job and your’s is more important than complaining. So stop talking and move faster” Whoosh! And off they went moving on with their mission.

I would rather

 Trading lives

I would rather trade lives with someone who is hiding secrets so I know what they have done. I would also know what it feels like to be silly and lazy. I also want to be that person so I know  they can be active outside. I might also cause trouble while I am still in that person’s body. I would rather trade lives with my brother just for fun.

I would rather

Tree house or cave
I would rather live in a tree house. You could see a beautiful view from on top of a tree. A cave might be too dark for me to live in, it might have insects I don’t like and the cave might collapse while I am still inside. If a flood happens then I would be safe and dry from above in my tree house.

I would rather

I would rather
I think I would choose a jetpack. I could fly around the world to see places. I would also have some fun. I would scare people thinking that I am a flying God coming down from the heavens or a hero visiting to stop Covid-19. I wouldn’t choose a robot because what good will it do to me. It’s not like it will help me when I am struggling with my homework.

Brand new bike

What do would you do if your car doesn't work, your kids are late for school and you're also late for work or an appointment? You should try our latest model on a bike. With seats on the side for your kids or anyone big enough for 3 people each seat. If your thinking of buying this why don't you buy, like right now!

I would rather

Invisible or the ability to fly?
Being invisible can be really useful. If you’re in danger from people, your invisible power can help you to escape or to fight back. Flying can also be very useful, zooming through the sky from one place to another to save people or to see remarkable things. It is a really hard decision to make but if I was thinking about protecting myself, I would choose the option of being invisible.

Tuesday 2 November 2021

I would rather

Dancing or singing I think I would rather be a singer than a dancer. Dancer’s express their feelings through actions, and the only feeling that I can express is being annoyed by siblings. Singing I think is the right option to go for. I just don’t feel comfortable jumping around in front of people.

Monday 1 November 2021

I would rather

The beach or overseas
I would rather be at a beach in New Zealand. You could see the sun rise or set at the beach, you could go for a swim, have a picnic, or take a walk. Going overseas is OK too, like seeing places, visiting family or friends, or relaxing at an expensive resort, but due to Covid-19 I am stuck here. So going to the beach in New Zealand is the best option.

I would rather

Powers in your hands or Magical Wand
I would rather have powers in my hands. What happens if you lose your wand or it breaks, that will be very sad and you won't have powers to save people. Unless people might chop off your hands. Powers in your hands are useful because you can use them anytime instead of looking around for your wand. That means while the world is in danger, you’re too busy looking around for your wand while lots of lives are being lost.

Dr. Barnard will see you now

Thursday 28 October 2021

I would rather

Hero or Villain
I would rather be the heroic lead in a story. In most stories the villain most likely dies, or loses in a fight and I don’t want that. The hero may die but at least the people will realise that he didn’t die in vain.

Wednesday 27 October 2021

I would rather

Movie or Video Game
I would rather teleport straight into my favourite movie. Since I have seen the movie I know how it ends and every event in it, so I know what to expect. Whether it's people trying to kill me, driving fast cars, or running away from a monster. I might teleport into a movie and a video game at the same time, like Jumanji.

Pope John Paul II

 Pope John Paul II

John Paul, born Karol Józef WojtyÅ‚a, was born on the 18th of May 1920 in Poland.

In 1946 John Paul became a priest, and during 1978 at the age of 58, John Paul became the first non-Italian Pope. Pope John Paul II was Pope for 27 years. During 1981 the Pope was shot in the ear at the Apostolic Palace. Pope John Paul II came to New Zealand during 1986. I think that the Pope forgave the person who shot him because as a Catholic and the leader of all Catholics around the world he set an example to Catholics and other religions that forgiving means to make yourself happy and the other person not feeling guilty. Pope John Paul II was loved by so many people maybe because of his work. He went out to people to encourage them, especially those who need lots of mental help. He also made miracles. Pope John Paul was canonized a Saint on the 27th of April 2005 after attempting two miracles and died. Pope John Paul II suddenly died from a cardio circulatory collapse and septic shock on the 2nd of April 2005.

I would rather

Stranded in a forest or desert Island

I would rather be stranded in a forest. You can hide under trees as a shelter from the sun or the rain. I can also find an animal to kill and eat and find a way to drink. If I am stranded on a desert Island I cannot find any animals to eat or a way to drink fresh water. I would also not find a way to build a shelter.

Friday 22 October 2021

I would rather

 Flying

I would rather have wings to fly so I can fly away from annoying people. Flying is important because what happens if you are far away from a water source but have the power to breathe underwater. That means breathing underwater is a useless power. Flying can be used when you are in danger, or if I am bored I could fly away. I could also see interesting places like Paris.

Thursday 21 October 2021

I would rather

Back in time
I would rather go back in time and fix the mistakes I made when I was younger. I would make fun of others when I was little. I would also be able to visit Jesus, the dinosaurs, and my birth. I could go back and maybe change Tiktok.

Wednesday 20 October 2021

I would rather

Reading minds
I would rather read minds so I know what people are thinking about. It could also be fun to read my siblings' minds so I could tell them off for thinking negatively about me. Finally when I am bored I can read minds for fun!

Tuesday 19 October 2021

I would rather

Superhero or a Wizard
I would rather be a superhero than a wizard because I dream of flying around the world. I can help people that need help while exploring interesting places. I wouldn't like to be a wizard because I don’t want to think so hard on how to cast a spell.

Monday 18 October 2021

I would rather

 I would rather

I would rather jump on clouds and see my town from above. Watching birds fly by and planes rocket past. Jumping over places and seeing the world without paying for transport. But at the end of the day is the best time because you could see the sun set.

Robo Cop

In Singapore there is a robot that can do a job of a cop but in Covid-19 terms. Imagine a robot that monitors people that breaks Covid-19 protocols. If you saw a robot in walking around a supermarket around your suburb how would you feel?

Well I predict that the robot might look like this if it is in New Zealand:

Just like siri, this robot will approach and speak using someone else's voice.

If they see someone with no mask, a mask will come out of a slot, the person takes the mask to wear.

Here is the link to read 2 robots similar to this one in Singapore.
Robo Cop is back and this time here to protect you from a disease.

Vaccination time - by Augustine

 Vaccination time

Lockdown is hard, but testing and getting vaccinated will help us get out of lockdown quickly, and during lockdown I got something that will help me to protect myself, family and other people.

My mum and I wore our masks and just for safety gloves and hopped in the car and drove off. I felt nervous but willing to give it a go. We arrived at the place where I would, just like other adults, get my Covid-19 vaccination. We waited in the car for a few minutes just listening to music. I thought we would stay for a long time but later we got invited by people to walk to the marae. I was given a name tag and walked to where we saw not many people sitting down, probably waiting for their names to be called.

After 5 - 10 minutes someone called my name and told my mum and I to walk into the marae. We sat down again and waited. Then someone called to sit across from her. She asked me a few questions mostly about my health. After that I was told to sit down and wait again.

Just after 5 minutes my name was called to get my vaccine. This is the time where I will feel the pain. I sat down and felt nervous. But I knew it wouldn’t be very painful.

I was wrong, when that needle went through my skin I felt aching. I knew that was normal, but then the aching worsened, I almost bit my lip. After that we were told to sit down in a waiting room. I was tired of sitting and waiting. We waited for 15 - 20 minutes just to see if any side effects would occur. Nothing felt painful other then the aching. Finally for the last time we were told something that made me feel so happy, “You could go home now. Thank you”. I got up straight away and walked outside with my mum straight to the car.

What an experience that I hope I won't have again. But this was my first dose and after a few weeks, I will have to come back for the last.

Tracking Emily

What is inside the ear?

Do you want to know what is inside you ear? This is one of the activities my reading group will present. Enjoy reading and I hope this information is very helpful for you.

1. Pinna - The pinna is another word for the outer ear. It funnels sound vibration through the ear.

2.  Ear Drum - Sound bounces on the ear drum which vibrates.

3.  Ossicles - Ossicles are bones that when the vibration of the sound moves the bones make it louder.

4. Cochlea - Lots of fluids fills the cochlea. Ripples inside moves tiny hair-shaped cells.

5. Auditory Nerve - These sends impulses to the brain to translate signals into the sound you heard.

A life of a Maggot

MAGGOTS

Have you ever wondered how maggots grow? Well in Room 8 we discovered facts, like how the maggot's slime can be used for a healing balm for wounds and fly larvae can suppress our immune system from attacking so it can start eating the skin. It cleans your body by eating the dead skin so the wound can heal. We also learned about the Maggot's life cycle, so if you interested in knowing how maggots grow, read more.

2. Rocket moves into horizontal position and turns off first Stage engines. Rocket's second stage separates

3. Rocket's second stage turns off engines and releases satellite

4. Satellite is pulled towards Earth by gravity but is moving sideways fast enough to continually miss Earth

The Statue of Zeus

In Olympia is one of the 7 wonders of the world called the Statue of Zeus. This statue is made out of Ivory and Gold. This was created in 436 BC by a builder Phidias. Unlike other statues of Zeus, Phidias decided to carve Zeus looking calm. The statue is showing symbols like victory in his right hand and the crown of olives meaning the power. After the temple was constructed, the people planned to make a statue of Zeus inside his temple.

Kids seeing what they shouldn't see

Dear Diary

Today at school we had a big, loud welcome from a huge explosion outside. It was so loud I couldn't hear anything else. I got up and was the first out of my class. It was 12:11 pm when the school escaped. The horror of running through the sounds of screams, shootings, explosions, and bodies. Seeing people lying dead. The smell of bullets on the street, people's blood and flies buzzing around. Finally, I arrived home, it felt like waking up from a nightmare. But it got even worse. One of my best friends didn't escape from the school fast enough.

The Yellow Umbrella

Dear diary

As I lay on my comfortable pillow in my small room I think of my yellow umbrella. The day I gave the umbrella to the boy made me feel like I gave away a memory. It was a mistake giving him the umbrella. My family had it forever and if I tell dad what happened he'll get angry. I feel so nervous. My legs are shaking . . .
The smell of sawdust from his clothes is getting stronger as he got closer to my room.

My dad asked where the umbrella is...

 I have to go. Goodbye.

Sailing away

On Monday the 10th of May 2021, Room 8 went on a trip to the Akarana Yacht Club at Okahu Bay to learn how to sail. During the ride I felt nervous about whether I would get through the day without any mistakes and learn how to sail.

Although the day didn't help us with no wind and rain that fell after lunch, it didn't make the senior class of St Patrick's School give up.  We learned how to get the boat ready by attaching parts together, how to steer and move the boat. We didn't really have enough time to jump off our boats for fun but we had a great time getting wet, laughing and playing games.

Getting ready to go back to school

Ready to go out to sail!

Looks like this boat had heavy passengers!

had a wonderful experience sailing and realised that I would like to sail again but with my family. When we got back to school we couldn't stop talking about the day because we had such a great time.
I would thank St Johns Rotary and Yachting New Zealand for giving all of us such a fun opportunity to learn some skills about sailing.

Note:
- No child got hurt - just wet.

Diary entry

This is a diary entry I have written in response to a short animation video we are studying for literature.

The boy escapes

Dear diary
Today will be the day I will escape to find my parents. To get answers to why they left me. I can feel the chances of escaping is growing. The door bell jingles, squishy footsteps coming from down stairs. The orphanage head principal is now talking to the visitor. Now is my chance to run. I will write later diary. Bye

(30 minutes later)
Dear diary
I got caught. My plan failed.

My favourite value - by Augustine

Today my class and I talked about what values do each of us have. So us students thought hard but simple and suggested what their favourite value was. My value was 'family' because they are the first people I would think about. After thinking it was time for creating. We used clay to make our value, like this:

Stations of the Cross 2021 - by Augustine

Welcome to Stations of the Cross 2021

What we do and why we do it:

During the time of Holy Week on the 1st of April 2021, Saint Patrick's school at Panmure, Auckland has kept their tradition, even during Covid-19, by observing and playing a part in the Stations of the Cross. As a Catholic school we share the journey of Jesus Christ carrying the cross and dying by putting on a performance for the school, so every year the year 7 and 8's participate by choosing and playing a part in the Stations of the Cross. There are 14 stations that lead to Jesus' death. This is a special time for our school and the whole Catholic Community around the world to give appreciation and respect to Jesus.

Behind the scenes:
Before the seniors performed in front of the school, they rehearsed the production 5 times. The first rehearsal was difficult for them because they have never been part of a reverent presentation before, but they never gave up. Without using costumes or items they practise and understand what they were doing and why they were doing it. The 2nd practise was usually the same, without any items and costumes. But the 3rd and 4th we practise in our school hall and that time with our items, the cross, the crown of thorns, and Veronica’s towel, and on the 5th rehearsal before we were going to perform in front of the school we used our costumes as well, and then we were ready.

The Stations of the Cross:
While the school walked into the hall, the characters took their places, and the guards including Jesus were waiting for everyone to be ready. Then a few minutes later it was time to shine. The production was amazing. Falling on the floor, women crying, men helping, clothes taken off, the nailing to the cross, and finally death. Children taking crosses of their own infront of Jesus and left the hall reverently.

Feedback loop - by Augustine

 The Ice Albedo Feedback Loop

The ice Albedo feedback loop is when the sun bounces of the ice back to space, because the ice’s colour is light. But because Earth's temperature is higher than usual the ice melts and the dark side absorbs the heat from the sun then the waters get higher and higher.

Christchurch Earthquake Prayer - by Augustine

 Dear people of Christchurch

I know how hard and scary the experience was for you. I know how you felt when you lost someone. I feel very sorry that young children suffered and came across a horrific incident. The parents that suffered for their children's safety, I feel you. So I wrote a prayer for you and those you lost.

Dear Lord

On this day, 12:51pm, many people died and many were traumatised.I pray together with lots of other people that this event won't happen again. We also pray for the souls that has been loved dearly by friends and families that are up with you that they may be blessed. May the people of Christchurch be blessed by you, Lord.
Amen

Have a blessed day Christchurch. KIA KAHA.
