Kids seeing what they shouldn't see

Dear Diary

Today at school we had a big, loud welcome from a huge explosion outside. It was so loud I couldn't hear anything else. I got up and was the first out of my class. It was 12:11 pm when the school escaped. The horror of running through the sounds of screams, shootings, explosions, and bodies. Seeing people lying dead. The smell of bullets on the street, people's blood and flies buzzing around. Finally, I arrived home, it felt like waking up from a nightmare. But it got even worse. One of my best friends didn't escape from the school fast enough.

The Yellow Umbrella

Dear diary

As I lay on my comfortable pillow in my small room I think of my yellow umbrella. The day I gave the umbrella to the boy made me feel like I gave away a memory. It was a mistake giving him the umbrella. My family had it forever and if I tell dad what happened he'll get angry. I feel so nervous. My legs are shaking . . .
The smell of sawdust from his clothes is getting stronger as he got closer to my room.

My dad asked where the umbrella is...

 I have to go. Goodbye.

Sailing away

On Monday the 10th of May 2021, Room 8 went on a trip to the Akarana Yacht Club at Okahu Bay to learn how to sail. During the ride I felt nervous about whether I would get through the day without any mistakes and learn how to sail.

Although the day didn't help us with no wind and rain that fell after lunch, it didn't make the senior class of St Patrick's School give up.  We learned how to get the boat ready by attaching parts together, how to steer and move the boat. We didn't really have enough time to jump off our boats for fun but we had a great time getting wet, laughing and playing games.

Getting ready to go back to school

Ready to go out to sail!

Looks like this boat had heavy passengers!

had a wonderful experience sailing and realised that I would like to sail again but with my family. When we got back to school we couldn't stop talking about the day because we had such a great time.
I would thank St Johns Rotary and Yachting New Zealand for giving all of us such a fun opportunity to learn some skills about sailing.

Note:
- No child got hurt - just wet.

Diary entry

This is a diary entry I have written in response to a short animation video we are studying for literature.

The boy escapes

Dear diary
Today will be the day I will escape to find my parents. To get answers to why they left me. I can feel the chances of escaping is growing. The door bell jingles, squishy footsteps coming from down stairs. The orphanage head principal is now talking to the visitor. Now is my chance to run. I will write later diary. Bye

(30 minutes later)
Dear diary
I got caught. My plan failed.

My favourite value - by Augustine

Today my class and I talked about what values do each of us have. So us students thought hard but simple and suggested what their favourite value was. My value was 'family' because they are the first people I would think about. After thinking it was time for creating. We used clay to make our value, like this:
