Jonas Salk was born October 28th, 1914 in New York City, the eldest of three brothers.
Dr. Salk earned a medical degree from the University of New York school of medicine. He went to university in Michigan on a research fellowship to develop a vaccine in 1947.
The influenza vaccine is protect against four influenza viruses. The vaccine grows when it hatches from an egg inside the body.Dr. Salk used the vaccine on people who hasn’t had polio including himself,  scientists and his family. The outcome was a positive one. There were negative reactions from the vaccine.

Robo Cop

 In Singapore there is a robot that can do a job of a cop but in Covid-19 terms. Imagine a robot that monitors people that breaks Covid-19 protocols. If you saw a robot in walking around a supermarket around your suburb how would you feel?

Well I predict that the robot might look like this if it is in New Zealand:

Just like siri, this robot will approach and speak using someone else's voice.

If they see someone with no mask, a mask will come out of a slot, the person takes the mask to wear.

What is inside the ear?

Do you want to know what is inside you ear? This is one of the activities my reading group will present. Enjoy reading and I hope this information is very helpful for you.

1. Pinna - The pinna is another word for the outer ear. It funnels sound vibration through the ear.

2.  Ear Drum - Sound bounces on the ear drum which vibrates.

3.  Ossicles - Ossicles are bones that when the vibration of the sound moves the bones make it louder.

4. Cochlea - Lots of fluids fills the cochlea. Ripples inside moves tiny hair-shaped cells.  

5. Auditory Nerve - These sends impulses to the brain to translate signals into the sound you heard.

Have you ever wondered how maggots grow? Well in Room 8 we discovered facts, like how the maggot's slime can be used for a healing balm for wounds and fly larvae can suppress our immune system from attacking so it can start eating the skin. How satellites orbit the Earth

 1. Rocket Launches from Earth

2. Rocket moves into horizontal position and turns off first Stage engines. Rocket's second stage separates

3. Rocket's second stage turns off engines and releases satellite

4. Satellite is pulled towards Earth by gravity but is moving sideways fast enough to continually miss Earth

(Skinny arrow means moving sideways, Fat arrow means being pulled down back to Earth)

 This is one of the reading activities for my group. We researched the landmarks and find out where a boy, Robert, used to live and currently lives now.The yellow dot near Christchurch is where Robert used to live, Lyttelton, and the dot below the word Queensland is where Robert lives now.

The ice Albedo feedback loop is when the sun bounces of the ice back to space, because the ice’s colour is light. But because Earth's temperature is higher than usual the ice melts and the dark side absorbs the heat from the sun then the waters get higher and higher.

What is Malaria? How is it caused?

Malaria is a fatal disease. This disease comes from a mosquito that carries Plasmodium parasites. One bite from this then it will travel through your blood, and within 10 -14 days it will keep developing.

What are its symptoms?

The symptoms are:

. High fever

. Sweating hard

. Headache
. Nausea

. Vomiting

. Abdominal pain

. Diarrhea

. Anemia

. Muscle pain

. Convulsion

. Coma

. Bloody stools

How is it Diagnosed?

Well the doctor will do some tests (blood tests). Only if you have symptoms.

 Peter Snell This  is one of the activities from my reading.

This is about Peter Snell and his life.

• Where was he born?

Peter Snell was born on the 17th of December 1938 in Opunake.

• What school did he go to?

When Peter Snell was still young he went to Te Aroha College around the Waikato area Auckland Mount Albert Grammar School

• What was he most famous for and where did this occur?

Snell was most famous for representing New Zealand in the Olympics from 1960 - 1964. He also entered the Commonwealth games in 1962 in Perth, Australia, and he also came 1st place in the Olympics and the Commonwealth.

• What challenges did he face along the way?

I think one of the challenges that Peter faced was racing other competitors, but I also think that the biggest challenge he faced was losing to a heart disease.

• What did he accomplish after he had retired from athletics?

After his retirement from sports he went to education in the United States, accomplished winning the 2003 United States Orienteering Championship, and was awarded the  Member of the Order of the British Empire for service in the field of athletics.

The Longest Walk

 The Longest Walk

This story is about the Rapsey family, hiking through the longest path, Te Araroa, and reaching the end of the trail. 

This family came from the home of the Otago University, Dunedin, and went all the way to Cape Reinga, and walked through the long trail, and travelled across and reached the end of the South Island, Bluff. 

The Rapsey family passed through boulders, mountains, big trees and alot of nature. It took the family over 5 months to reach Bluff. They slept under huts that they built, stayed under tents in forests, and at camping grounds.

I think that this family is very brave, determined and adventurous. They walked from the top of NZ to the bottom and with nothing but determination and fun, at the end they achieved their goal.

What I found out about telegrams:

A telegram is a message that is sent by telegraph, wire, and delivered to people in Morse code. 

A person calls the post office and says what they want to say. Then the office sends the message to the person that the caller wanted to speak to. The office writes it in Morse code then sends. And the person on the other end received the message and tries to figure out what it means.

I think that telegrams were used to pass messages around the world.

It even has my name, and a golden door handle. It also has wheel so I don't have to leave my house alone, and finally it has a pool on the roof.
