NZ Maori Legends - Three Top Facts - by Augustine

1. Kiwi is a fruit in New Zealand. Kiwi is also a New Zealand native flightless bird. So all New Zealand citizens are known as Kiwis.

2. In the past, New Zealand was part or regulated by New South Wales territory, and then part of Australia in some years later.

3. In New Zealand, Queen Elizabeth II is formally the Queen, and a Governor General is appointed to be her representative.

  1. Kia ora Augustine,

My name is Rachel and I am working with the Summer Learning Journey programme this year. Welcome to the team! I see that you have been incredibly busy working your way through the entire first week of the programme and starting on Week #2. This is incredible!

I will enjoy reading each of your posts and will provide comments as I go. Our team will also read your work and provide their own comments. I know that they are going to be just as impressed as I am with your effort and your commitment to keeping your learning going over the break!

For this first activity I see that you have chosen three really interesting facts about New Zealand. I didn't actually realise that New Zealand was once considered to be under the same jurisdiction (regulation) as New South Wales, Australia. It's great to have the chance to read your work and to learn brand new things.

When you were reading through the top facts about New Zealand, did any of them surprise you?

I hope that you'll continue to share your learning with us over the break. I'm going to head to your other posts now and read through them all. I'm also going to make sure that we keep track of each activity in our master spreadsheet.

Keep up the great work, Augustine!

    Cheers,
    Rachel

  2. Hi Rachel

Nice to meet you, and thank you for giving me guides during the holidays. The most interesting fact is that Gisborne is the first city in the world to see the sun. I did not know that. This is because Gisborne about 500 km away from the international date line.

Looking forward to talk with you soon.
    Augustine
